A Special Award

September 20, 2005

On September 20th, 2005 the Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center held its 8th Annual Birthday Party Event. A special award was created by the Center in memory of Marcie and will be presented annually to an outstanding member of the community who has helped children.

The 2005 Marcie Mazzola Child Advocate Award was presented to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota for his commitment to children and for acquiring a special medical scope used to examine children that have been sexually abused. The scope is extremely expensive but very important because it is a much less invasive and traumatic way to examine the children.

The Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center is currently undergoing a Capital Campaign to expand the size of the facility to accommodate the growing number of children in need. The grounds of the Center will be named “The Marcie Mazzola Miracle Garden.” This very special tribute would make Marcie so happy and proud. This will be a place where the children can play and hopefully find peace and comfort.
