$57,000 Raised for Children's Charities

November 01, 2006

Third Annual Butterfly Auction raised $57,000 for charities that benefit children. The Foundation was established by the Mazzola Family as a tribute to Marcie who was killed in a car accident in 2002. While only 21 years old when she died, Marcie's compassionate and loving nature drew her to those who needed help, especially children. The Foundation's mission is to continue Marcie's commitment to children and to specifically "help better the lives of abused and at risk children; and increase community awareness about the needs of children."

The proceeds from the Fall 2006 event were donated to a number of children's charities: The EAC Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center in Central Islip, which supports physically & sexually abused children in Suffolk County; The Huntington YMCA Summer Camp Program, which allows underprivileged children to attend summer camp;  The Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS), which assists survivors of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault; The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation, which is devoted to reducing child abductions through public awareness; and The Smile Train, which provides surgery to children who suffer from cleft pallet and cleft lip.
